Interviews are tricky for both parties, but choosing the right candidate can be even more of a challenge. There are several clues that let you know you just had a successful interview – one where you might have found the right person for the job. Here are three signs and what you can make of them:
You remember key points
Did your candidate leave you with the right picture in mind? Think of a few skills or traits you remember being mentioned during the interview – if they leave you with a good feeling then there’s a good chance they could be the right hire.
They provided you with references
It’s one thing receive references upon request, but if the candidate asks or provides you with references before asking, that’s a sure sign they are proactive. Look into these references to get a better feeling of how the interviewee would be on the job.
They asked you questions
Did the candidate ask you questions? If so, what kinds of questions were asked? You can get a better sense of the candidate’s intentions and passion by their questions and follow-ups. For example, if the interviewee asked, “What is one challenge your business faces today, and in my first year how can I help?” then you know two things (a) this person is looking to be of value to your company and (b) they are looking for the long-term.
