Job postings can be stressful when you’re looking to hire someone immediately. Oftentimes that means little details (important ones) are overlooked. That being said, we want to share with you the DOs and DON’Ts of job postings to increase your chances for hiring top talent:
DO utilize keywords. The more keywords your job posting contains that are relevant to the position, the easier it is for search engines to find it. And as a result, you’ll target more talent.
DON’T advertise for “rockstars”. Stick to more traditional job titles, which will increase the likeliness of your posting to show up in search results on job boards.
DO mention Happy Hours and Bagel Fridays. Give job candidates a good sense of your company’s culture, which includes traditional benefits, but hopefully also has other perks.
DON’T tell. You want to grab the reader’s attention – show them. Create a visual experience when you tell them what they will encounter upon possibly landing the position. You can even upload a video to give a more clear medium.
DO address the elephant in the room. When you fail to include salary information or other necessary details, job candidates are more likely to be turned off. It’s important to let job seekers know and understand that money isn’t everything – they must love what they do, That’s also where other perks come into play.
DON’T assume candidates don’t hold you to the same standards. If you don’t give a resume a second look due to a typo, expect job seekers to treat job postings just as equally. Occasional typos happen, so ask a colleague to check for errors you might have missed.
DO associate with multiple industries. If you want to increase visibility, you should associate your job posting with multiple industries. Many professions cross paths, such as web designers and programmers. Make sure it’s relevant, but not too narrow.
