Thanksgiving is just a week away – a time for reflection and for giving.
When you’re asked what you’re thankful for, you might think of the obvious: family, friends, food. How about the people you work with on the daily, the employees who sit next to you or work for you, who help you up when you’re down, making every effort to do their best. You can show your appreciation for them too in these little clever ways:
Just say it
Sometimes just saying “thank you” can go a long way. It’s simple, yet highly unused. Write it in a card if you prefer – either way, the words are powerful.
Offer a project of choice
If you’re a manager, offer team members a chance to work on a project of their choice. Not only does this show that you trust and appreciate them – it also boosts productivity, as they are more likely to put their hearts into it.
Give free passes
Send free passes to hardworking employees to attend a national or international conference related to the industry in which you work. They can learn a lot and will appreciate that you recognize their hard work.
Allow longer lunch breaks
Around the holiday season, give back by allowing extra time for breaks. That is, if it does not interfere with the productivity of work.
Give tickets for entertainment
Tickets to see a movie, local sporting event, or theater can motivate your employees to keep working hard – and it’s an event where they can also show their families that the company they work for cares about their personal life and achievements.
Tell stories at your next meeting
Share an employee’s story of accomplishment at your next meeting to highlight what a good job they do where some people may not notice. This verbal recognition is meaningful, memorable, and can inspire other employees as well.
