For most woman, working a full-time job doesn’t mean you get to clock out at 5 p.m. Working mothers often feel stuck between the needs of their job and their family. So, in celebration of Mother’s Day, we want to take the time to share a few tips from some strong businesswoman on how to get the most out of your day.
Follow the split shift. In order to be successful both in their careers and at being a mother, woman need to strike a delicate balance, or a split shift. This entails ending work around the time your kids get out of school and having family time in the evening. When the children go to sleep is when you should finish any work you have for the day.
Strike tasks from your to-do list. Many working moms who have flexible work schedules admit to doing personal tasks while on the clock and vice versa. Make sure you’re planning out your schedules accordingly so your work and personal lives don’t overlap.
Work on the weekends. It’s hard to grow in your career and only work 35 hours a week. So while working on the weekends might get a negative rep, this can really help moms achieve more of a work-life balance.
Keep track of your time. Sometimes, it helps to take a look at the whole picture. Many women don’t realize how much time they’re actually spending with their children, especially during those early morning hours. Being able to pinpoint when you spend time with your family helps working moms feel more relaxed about the hours they spend working.
