We pride ourselves on pulling 12-hour days, but this hard work can overwhelm your personal career goals and advancements. Here are four things you can do to ensure you’re being proactive, instead of reactive, in your career.
1. Identify your next-step. Do you love what you do? Would you like to perform a similar role, but in a different industry? Or maybe you want to seek out a whole different position. In order to grow and succeed, it’s critical to take note of your goals and be clear on what you want your future destination to look like.
2. Define what you like. Do you enjoy solving problems, multi-tasking, or working and collaborating in teams? Think about the areas of your job that you love the most and prioritize what you would want to continue to focus on in your next role.
3. Define what you dislike. No job is perfect, there will always be areas that don’t fit. Identifying those aspects can help better attract the right role and help you steer away from the positions that are least fitting for your personality.
4. Take out time for training and development. If you are in pursuit of a role that requires skills, abilities, or experiences you have yet to acquire, seek help to fill in the gap. You will only benefit from investing in yourself.
