Americans are notorious for working longer hours and taking fewer days off. However, a new trend is forming, and they’re finally taking the vacation days that they deserve. With more people out of the office, especially during peak summer months, it’s important for your company to stay on track.
Stay organized. It’s important to have everything in order when it comes to managing PTO, including all clear communication about your policies. How long in advance should you request off? How do your team members know when their requests are approved? How are employee PTO limits updated?
Help managers. While HR is the one responsible for time off, it doesn’t hurt to help them out a little. Ask your managers to keep track of their team’s PTO requests to help ensure adequate coverage and to lessen the burden on HR.
Chill out at the office. There may be a select few that are not taking summer PTO, so try to relax during the next few months. Implement flexible Fridays during the summer or add company-created long weekends. This will help entice other employees to not take all of their PTO during the summer.
Keep things moving. It’s important to stick to all important deadlines, even when people are away on vacation. Have your team leave behind to-do lists, and all files and contacts necessary to complete any projects/tasks while they’re away.
