The job interview process may seem a lot like dating. The hiring manager will send an enthusiastic email, then go MIA for days. But the difference is — they’re not playing mind games with you — there could be plenty of reasons why they’re being hot and cold. Here are four common explanations as to why you didn’t get feedback.
1.The budget wasn’t approved.
If the company went through the trouble of writing out and posting a position, you would think the budget had been approved as well. But even if the salary was approved, that decision can be revoked, which causes them to hold off on the job offer until further notice.
2. Restructuring eliminated the position.
Any major disruption in a company can delay a hiring process. For instance, there could be a shift in management, change in department structure, or a company can quickly get acquired. If you really love the job, keep in touch with the recruiter to stay on top of the updates.
3. You’re the first candidate they interviewed.
The early bird usually gets the worm, but that’s not always the case with interviews. If you’re among the first in a long hiring process, someone may end up stealing your spotlight down the line.
4. The position was filled internally.
The position you applied for may have existed at one time or another. But oftentimes, another employee within the company hears about the opportunity and hops to the front of the line. It’s definitely not fair, but companies do prefer to promote and train internally when possible.
