“The questions isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.” – Ayn Rand
Today marks the start of Women’s History Month. In honor of recognizing some of the great women that changed history forever, let’s take a look at five traits that many of them had in common…
1. Confidence
All great leaders, male or female, must be confident. People follow confident leaders because it gives them a feeling of trust and security. If you are not confident in yourself, how can you expect others to be confident in you?
2. Education
Opportunities for education have become increasingly available to women over the decades. Take advantage of this. Many successful women have claimed that earning their MBA was a game-changer for them, and put them on the fast track to success. Learning should also extend beyond your degree; seek out an experienced mentor in your field to push you ahead even further.
3. Proactiveness
Don’t wait for an opportunity to succeed, make your own. According to Forbes, too many women sit around and wait for someone to recognize their accomplishments, instead of proactively taking credit for their high performance.
4. Perseverance
An old Chinese proverb states, “fall down seven times, stand up eight.” This simple, yet powerful message resonates deep in the core of every successful woman. Even in today’s world, females may face a tougher corporate climb than their male counterparts. Use this as motivation to come out better and stronger from the challenge.
5. Helpfulness
Truly great women impact those they have met, and leave the world a better place than they found it. One of the best ways of doing this is by helping those along your journey. Whether at home or in the office, don’t be afraid to lend a helping hand to someone who needs it.
